Barry L Boals, 74, passed away at his residence in Fishers on Sunday, December 15^th with his loving family at his side. Barry was born on May 1, 1939 in Sidney, Ohio to W. Foster and Mildred E. Boals.  He married his wife, Donna, on May 17, 1981. Their marriage was the envy of all who knew them. Barry and Donna combined their eight children into a loving and cohesive family- all survive him. Kristine Boals and Donna Marie Boals, Roanoke IN, Daniel Boals- Indianapolis, Matthew Boals-Fishers, Gretchen Duran (JoEl Schult,) Oakland, CA, Andrew (Jocelyn) South, Oceanside CA, Betsy(Irvin) Rodriguez, Fishers, and Anna (Ben) Wayman, Salt Lake City, UT all mourn his passing but celebrate his love and guidance throughout their lives. In addition, Barry loved his five grandsons- Tyler (Erin) Working and their five daughters, Justin (Jamie) Working and their two sons, Brandon (Samantha) Boals, Bradley Boals and Jagger South.

Barry considered his enlistment into the Navy at age 16 to be the turning point of his life, providing him the guidance and structure he needed. He was stationed on the ship that accompanied the submarine, Nautilus, when it made its historic voyage under the North Pole. He loved the adventures and opportunities that being a sailor provided him. While on leave and sitting at an outdoor café in Italy with his buddies, a gentleman beckoned them over to his table and asked if he could buy them a drink. After they chatted for a bit and parted ways, Barry learned that the “kind gentleman” was none other than Lucky Luciano, the notorious leader of the Mafia.

A natural salesman, Barry‘s career was in retail sales and management. He retired from his beloved Fishers Do It Center in 1999. After that he became skilled at taking a piece of vintage furniture purchased at auction and by repairing and painting it, he turned it into a little work of art. His pieces were highly prized by designers and customers at Consigning Women.

Barry was an avid fisherman who loved nothing more than to go the lake behind his house to “wet a line”. He and Donna spent many, many happy hours on their deck with friends and family and rescued cats enjoying the view of the lake just laughing and enjoying the company of those he loved. Barry enjoyed nothing more that to make people laugh and made every effort to welcome people of all ages and attitudes into his loving arms. He is celebrated for his acceptance of all who crossed his path and rarely had a cross word or harsh judgment about anyone. Truly a loving and gracious man/ husband/ father/ son/grandfather/ great-grandfather/brother/uncle and friend to all. Our hearts are broken at the loss of our Barry but we celebrate his life and legacy with much love.

Services will be held Saturday, December 21^st at Indiana Funeral Care and Crematory, Harry Moore Chapel, 8151 Allisonville Road. Calling is at 10:00 with a Celebration of Life immediately following. Memorial contributions may be made to woundedwarriors.com or to the Hamilton County Humane Society.
